Chateau Vannières Bandol Rosé

The Boisseaux family, originally from Beaujolais, have owned this organically farmed 32-hectare 16th Century domaine since 1957. Bandol’s dry warm growing conditions, proximity to the Mediterranean ocean, clay limestone soils and south/south-east facing slopes are ideal for growing mourvèdre, grenache and cinsault. The vines are roughly 20 to 60 years old and no chemical or synthetic applications are used. Eric and his son Charles Eric Boisseaux have employed traditional techniques and modern technology to produce a cracking rosé of lovely freshness and generosity. The mourvèdre component (about 60%) derives from drawing off juice prior to vinification. This technique is known as en saignée. The juice is faintly coloured because there is virtually no pick-up of phenolics from the skins. The remaining components, which are lightly pigmented, are drawn off directly from the press. When blended the wine shows a lovely pink salmon hue and mineral clarity. Fresh red currant raspberry fruits with herb garden, grapefruit notes, fine lacy textures and persistent acidity are all hallmarks of the style. The wine has excellent vinosity and depth of flavour. Drink as an aperitif or share with friends. Eric Boisseaux says “I make wine to serve at the dining table or simply to drink well on its own and enjoy”.
